Harold Hobaugh, 37, Jobless steelworker and part-time auxiliary policeman here, fatally wounded himself in the back yard of his home yesterday with a .38 service revolver. He died In Rochester General Hospital about four hours later. He was reportedly despondent over financial matters and lack of work. He was employed 18 years at American Bridge Division of U. S. Steel. For eight years he worked in the Economy Borough police department and served one term as constable. His wife, Arlette, and three children, Edwin, 12; Sheila, 9 and Lorraine, 7, survive.
Hohaugh was a World War II veteran, an Army technician in Northern France and the European theater. He was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. He served overseas for more than two years..
