June Louise Ward, 101, 106 N. Park Street, Knoxville, formerly of 906 Florence Ave., Galesburg, passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Jan. 20, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center.
June was born on July 1, 1911, the only child of Frank "Midge" Cullen and Selma Johnson Cullen. She married Gale E. Ward on Dec. 25, 1930, in Galesburg. Her beloved husband, Gale, died on Jan. 2, 1975.
She is survived by one daughter, Sally (Robert) Hickerson of Knoxville; three grandchildren, Steven (Leslie) Hickerson of Kissimmee, Fla., Julie (John) Lencioni of Wheaton, and Stuart (Angela) Hickerson of Williamsfield. Also, she is survived by seven great-children who called her GG. GG adored and treasured spending time with her great-grandchildren.
She attended Galesburg High School and Brown's Business College. June and Gale Ward owned Gale Ward Sporting Goods Store for many years. She was a member of Lake Bracken County Club, site of her only hole-in-one, and the Order of the Eastern Star and Trinity Lutheran Church. June served for many years on the board of The Ladies Knox County Golf Association and competed in the city golf tournament into her 80s. She loved her family, golf, sporting events and her frequent trips to Las Vegas. She will be missed by many.
Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, between 5 and 7 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. A celebration of June's life will be officiated by Pastor David Shreeves at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 at the chapel with burial following at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Boys Town, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
