"O'NEILL
VIRGINIA B. (nee Bialas) died peacefully Thursday April 12, 2007 at age 96. Born in Pittsburgh, she married John F. O'Neill, a Philadelphia Native, in 1937, becoming part of the Philadelphia clan that consisted of 2 brothers and 4 sisters. They were married for 45 years. Mr. O'Neill died in 1982. Mrs. O'Neill's death marks the end of an era, as a young woman in Pittsburgh; she modeled, enjoyed acting, competitive swimming and playing the violin. In the more staid atmosphere of Philadelphia she enjoyed volunteering as a "Grey Lady" at Abington Memorial Hospital and later as one of the original volunteers at Holy Redeemer Hospital. She raised three children and in later years enrolled in painting lessons at Alverthorpe Art Center. Mrs. O'Neill took pride in painting portraits of her 9 grandchildren whose portraits seem to bear an uncanny resemblance to each other. She also rekindled her love of music by learning to play the organ, regaling family members by singing songs from the latest Broadway musicals. Mrs. O'Neill is survived by 3 children, Virginia Hamburger (William), John F. O'Neill, Jr., and Sheila Heins (Edwin), Known as "Ginny" by her sons-in-law and grandchildren, Anne Marie, Heather, Christine, Jennifer, John III, Ted, Billy, Alicia, and Neill, and as "Great Ginny" by her 18 great grandchildren, David, Christopher, Savannah, Connor, Natalie, John, Meredith, Claire, Nora, Reilly, Quinn, Owen, Colin, Josephine, Tomas, Lachlan, Sofia, and Griffin, and "Aunt Ginny" by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. "Take care of your Beautiful Self", she would say, as one left her company, and all who came in contact with her during her life would wish her the same. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Sat April 21, 2007 at 11:00AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 602 West Avenue, Jenkintown, where the family will receive condolences after 9:00 AM Int. Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Cheltenham . In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis County House, Darby, PA 19023, Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington, PA 19001, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis TN 38105.
