Friends Mourn Passing of A. B. McAdams

Mr. Alonzo B. McAdams one of Mojave's most highly esteemed citizens was taken in death Thursday, March 7, at the family home on Cerro Gordo Street. He had been in ill health for some time.
Known by his many friends as Mac he was born in Dallas Texas on March 28, 1893 and worked on cattle ranches before coming to San Francisco as a young man.
Mac first became acquainted with the Mojave area in 1915 when he was sent to Oak Creek on a survey party with federal surveyors. He enlisted in the army in Los Angeles in 1917, was married that year and returned from service in 1919 with the rank of sergeant major. He was a member of the WW I Veterans and a past member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. During the first world war he served with the famous 42nd Rainbow Division.
At one time Mr. McAdams ran a wagon freight line into Death Valley for some mining concerns. He was deeply interested in mining for many years both at Skidoo and Death Valley and in 1946 formed the Mojave Mining and Milling Corporation.
He was active in fraternal organizations and was a charter member of the Mojave Lions Club and a member of the Mojave Elks Club. In civic work he was a member of the board of directors of the Mojave Public Utility District since May 17, 1947 and was the president of the board for the last several years.
Graveside services were held Saturday morning, March 9, at Mojave Cemetery with Mr. Russell Wilson of the Christian Science Church officiating and Stickel Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McAdams is survived by his widow Myrtle, one daughter Mrs. Betty Cleveland, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
