Gilroy Man Dies from Car Accident
Death Curve on Highway 466 east of Monolith claimed another life Saturday night when Jack Mercer of Gilroy, coming from the East, failed to notice the curve and swung his car suddenly striking the railroad signal tower, throwing him from the car. The car stopped on the railroad tracks and a train crashed into it, completely demolishing the vehicle.
Mercer was brought to the Tehachapi hospital where he died Sunday from injuries received.
There has been a number of bad accidents at this bad curve in the past two years and every effort is being made to have the curve eliminated but nothing has been done, although the highway dept. says the money has been appropriated to fix the dangerous spot.
