California City Chiropractor, 61, Killed by Auto
A 61-year-old California City chiropractor became Kern County’s second 1966 traffic fatality last night when he reportedly walked in front of an automobile on the Randsburg-Mojave road.
The California Highway Patrol identified him as George Mershon of P.O. Box 45.
Struck at 6:45 p.m. 800 feet west of South Loop Road, Mershon died at 8:05 p.m. in Tehachapi Valley Hospital.
He was wearing dark clothing. The car’s driver, Horace Goodner, 52, of 8858 Peach Street, California City, told the patrol his car could not avoid striking Mershon.
Goodner, employed by California City Development Co. as a golf course superintendent, was driving about 35 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone, the highway patrol said.
The CHP said no citation would be issued.
Mershon was taken to the hospital in Stickel’s ambulance.
