Inez Virginia (Deill) Hammonds 90, of Phoenix, AZ formally of Pittsburg, KS died 8:31am Thursday January 17, 2013 at the Hospice of the Valley Brighton Gardens in Phoenix, AZ.

Inez was born February 15, 1922 in McCune, KS the daughter of Barton and Bernice (Andrew) Deill. She was a lifelong resident of Pittsburg and a Graduate of McCune High School in 1941.

On July 27, 1941 Inez married Richard Hammonds in Girard, KS; he preceded her in death in 1973. Inez worked as a Bookkeeper at Broadway Lumber in Pittsburg, KS for 35 years retiring in 2010. Upon her retirement she joined her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Phoenix, AZ. She spent her last years enjoying family visits, teaching her great-grandchildren word puzzles and spending her summers in Northern Arizona.

Inez was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Pittsburg, KS; Women's Association of the First Presbyterian Church and Rebekah's of Kansas.

Survivors include children Barbara Combs of Phoenix, AZ, Douglas Hammonds of Springfield, MO; daughter in laws Chris Hammonds and Sharon Hammonds of Springfield, MO; grandchildren Aaron Clemens and wife Nicole of Phoenix, AZ, Jennifer Thinnes and husband Ben of Phoenix, AZ, Jessica Combs of Phoenix, AZ, Jason Hammonds and wife Summer of Springfield, MO, Taylor Hammonds of Springfield, MO and Tess Hammonds of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren Will Andrew Clemens, Rhett Wayne Clemens, Minnie Grace Clemens, Thomas Benjamin Thinnes, Tate Arthur Thinnes and Addison Sue Hammonds.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jerry Hammonds, siblings William Deill, Byron Deill and Grace Harvey.

Funeral Services will be 2pm Monday January 21, 2013 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Rev. Dan Moss officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Family will have an informal viewing after 2pm Sunday January 20, 2013 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to aid in the research to help cure Juvenile Diabetes.
