Mojave Rites For Tehachapi Matron

Mojave – June 11 – Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Josephine Elsey, 25, who passed away Monday after a lingering illness at the Tehachapi home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. D.B. Bishop, were conducted Wednesday morning a Community Congregational Church with the Reverend W. Judson Oldfield, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Elsey was a member of the Atherton Baptist Church, Los Angeles, and was a native of that city, although she has spent much of her life in Kern county. She and Mr. Elsey married in Bakersfield December 31, 1929 and were residents of Mojave for several years. Both were well known in this community.

Mrs. G.K. Bowlin and Mrs. Ed Monroe, soloists, rendered two songs, "Abide With Me" and "City Foursquare". Surviving in addition to her husband, Ellis H. Elsey, and her parents, are two brothers, William Bishop of Stockton and T. Bishop of Tehachapi and Mrs. Godfrey Lawrence, also of Tehachapi. Pallbearers were Howell Batey, John Ceccarelli, Jack Myers, Euell Stovall and Charles Thwing. Interment followed in Mojave Cemetery with arrangements in charge of Hopson Mortuary, Bakersfield.
