Louie Flores of Mojave passed away on December 16, 1997, in Mojave.
Flores has lived in Mojave since 1925. He graduated from A.V. High School in 1937 and started working for Santa Fe Railroad shortly after graduation.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 during W.W.II and was in the service until 1946.
When he returned home, he started to work as ticket agent/ billing officer for Southern Pacific Railroad. He worked there for 40 years and retired.
'Flores was dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mojave. He was a pioneer of St. Francis Bingo there.
Flores was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Lancaster, where he held several offices—Faithful Navigator, scribe and other offices. He organized the Msgr. Baquedano Council 6705 of the KC's in October, 1975. He held several offices in Mojave Council after it was organized in 1975.
In 1980 Louie Flores received the Benemerenti Medal from Pope Paul VI through Bishop Hugh Donohue, Bishop of Fresno Diocese.
A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fr. Leslie F. Shenoy conducted the service.
A military service was conducted at the graveside conducted by the Bakersfield VFW.
Pallbearers were six nephews:, Mark, Gabe, Rueben Flores; George and Pete. Pulos and Felix Munoz.
Flores' wife, Rose, passed away in 1991.
He is survived by one son, Gilbert, daughter-in-law, Jannelli brother, Henry Flores; two sisters, Josephine Pulos and Mary Lou Pulos, and four grandchildren.

MOJAVE — A funeral mass was held December 19 for long-time Mojave resident Louis "Louie" Flores.
Born June 21, 1917 in Mexico, Mr. Flores was a veteran of World War II and worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 37 years.
Active in St. Francis Catholic Church in Mojave, he founded the local Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Flores is survived by a brother, Henry; sisters Josephine Pulos and Marylou Pulos, all of Mojave; son Gilbert, of Lancaster and four grandchildren.
