Mary Lou Pulos
Mary Lou Pulos, a resident of Mojave since her birth on October 6, 1933, passed away on July 14, 2001 of natural causes. She was 66 years old.
Mrs. Pulos was baptized, made her first Holy Communion and Confirmation, and was married at St. Francis of Assisi-Mojave. She had a very special place in her life for the Parish. As a result, she was not only a loyal parishioner, but also a leader and an example in the Parish community.
Mrs. Pulos had been president of the Ladies of St. Francis for many years, was very active in fundraising through rummage sales, bake sales and other activities. She was a member of the finance council, a Eucharist minister and Parish Coordinator. As Parish Coordinator, Mrs. Pulos volunteered in the Parish office, organized people to help maintain the church and helped in every respect to keep the Parish active. She attended daily Mass and was a devoted Catholic.
She worked as a library technician for the Mojave Unified School District for 25 years, retiring in 1994 and was a member of the Lourdes of St. Francis of Assisi-Mojave, and the California School Employees Association.
Mrs. Pulos was presented the Benemerenti Medal by Fr. Leslie Shenoy, Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi on Sunday, July 21, 1996, at a Thanksgiving Mass in the presence of the people of God. This is the highest honor a lay person may receive in the Catholic Church.
Mrs. Pulos loved dogs and cats and always made a home for abandoned animals. She loved her family, friends, and the community of Mojave.
She was predeceased by her husband, George J. Pulos Sr. in 2000; Juan and Concha Flores, her parents; and Steve and Petra Pulos, her parents-in-law.
Survivors are sons, George Pulos Jr. of Mojave, CA, Pete Pulos of Fresno, CA; daughters-in-law, Richelle Pulos of Mojave, CA, Lori Pulos of Fresno, CA; sister, Josephine Pulos and brother, Henry Flores, both of Mojave, CA; grandson Jackson Pulos of Fresno, CA and granddaughter, Mercedes Pulos of Mojave, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary and Mass were offered by Fr. Leslie Shenoy on July 18, 2001 at St. Francis of Assisi in Mojave and Mrs. Pulos was laid to rest at East Kern Cemetery.
