Calvin Preston Pressly, the oldest son of Rev. David Pressly, D. D. and the former Miss Lethe Ann Fair, was born in Starkville, Mississippi on March 19th 1847. During the Civil War, Calvin Pressly served with distinction in Co. I, 6th Regt. Mississippi Cavalry, part of Gen. Nathan B. Forrest's Army of Tennessee. His educational advantages were good, studying in a classical school in Starkville and at Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina; where he graduated in 1869.

On July 21, 1869, Calvin Pressly married Miss Nancy Eleanor Pressly, only daughter of Rev. James Patterson Pressly and the former Miss Mary E. Young of Due West, South Carolina. Nancy was a graduate of the Due West Female College in the class of 1863. Eight children were born to them. In October of the same year, Calvin was received as a student of theology and entered Erskine Theological Seminary. He completed the course in 1871, and was licensed by the Second Presbytery, at King's Creek A. R. P. church, Newberry County, South Carolina, on Aug. 11, 1871.

The Memphis Presbytery ordained Rev. Pressly at Starkville A.R.P. church; where his father was pastor on August 31, 1872. A few months later installed him pastor of Shiloh A.R.P. This relation continued until 1878. On account of feeble health, he was laid aside from regular ministerial work for six years. In Oct., 1884, he was installed pastor of Gencrostee, Concord, and Grove churches in Anderson, South Carolina. He left these congregations in 1894, and began work in Milam County, Texas on January 2, 1895. Rev. Pressly was pastor of Marlow A. R. P. church from the spring of 1897 to Dec. 1, 1902.

Rev. Calvin Preston Pressly departed this life on the 28th of November 1919 at the age of 72 in Cameron, Milam County, Texas. He is buried beside his wife in Marlow Cemetery.
