Mojave Resident Walter Downey Laid To Rest

Walter J. Downey, 67, of 15703 M Street, an accountant in Mojave for the past 20 years, passed away May 22 in Tehachapi Hospital following a heart attack.
Born Oct. 25, 1902 in Missouri, he first came to Mojave in 1930 and worked as a miner for the Golden Queen Mine.
Survivors include his wife Beatrice, sons Doug of Mojave, and Lewis and Wyman; daughters Kathy Ryan, Patricia Mestas of Mojave, and Peggy Gillin of Pennsylvania; and one brother Claude. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services were held May 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Stickel Chapel with Rev. William Brewer officiating.
Interment was in Mojave Cemetery with arrangements by Stickel Mortuary.
