John Curtion is Called by Death

John Wilton Curtion, well Known hard rock miner of Mojave and vicinity, died on Friday August 5, 1949 at the Stony Brook retreat where he was receiving treatment for the ravages of a disease caused. by silicosis, contracted while employed at his trade'
Born in Marion County, Ark., on March 3, 1900 he came to this community in 1934 where he was employed by the Golden Queen Miining Co. and resided at 713 ½ I Street. He also had worked at Darwin and other mining centers and had worked other claims on a bond and lease.
He is survived by three daugthers, Marilyn Jean Farkes and Mrs. Norma Lee Nichols of Mojave and Dana Lew Wallace of Los Angeles; two brothers, Fred Curtion of Mojave and Thomas of Turlock, Calif.; a sister, Ollie M. Stevens of Turlock, three grandchildren, one in Mojave, and two of Los Angeles.
He was preceded in death by his wife who died here several years ago. A kindly man and loving father, he was well known to the mining fraternity by the nickname of "Spuyd" and many of his former friends were present and paid him their last respects on Monday morning of his week.
Grave side services took place n the Mojave cemetery on Monday morning with the Rev. Olin M. Collier of the Mojave Baptist Church officiating and conducted by the O'Donnell Funeral Home.
