"Uncle Bud" Colorful Oldtimer Passes Away

Mojave lost one of its most colorful and oldest citizens last Monday morning, January 14.
Mr. Ivan Cottle, better known to almost everyone as Uncle Bud, died in Kern General Hospital after a short illness.
Uncle Bud first came to Mojave as a Santa Fe railroad engineer about 1912. During the first World War he enlisted in the Canadian Army and served there as an engineer. He returned to the Santa Fe at Mojave and served as an engineer until his eyesight began to fail and in the early 40s took over the job of engine watchman. This position he held until his retirement in 1948.
Mr. Cottle for some time wrote a witty column for the Desert News titled "Uncle Bud Sez", in which he commented on railroad news and other items of interest.
Funeral arrangements under the direction of Stickel Mortuary of Mojave are pending.
