Funeral services will be held at three o'clock this afternoon, January 3, in the Stickel Mortuary Chapel for Orben M. Robinette with interment following at Mojave Cemetery. Reverend Jack Countryman of the Assembly of God Church will conduct the service.
Mr. Robinette originally came to Mojave in 1909 to work as a steam shovel engineer on the Los Angeles aqueduct under Chief Engineer Wm Mulholland. After working here two years he was employed in the construction of the Panama Canal and did other work in Costa Rica, Spanish Honduras and Guatemala. He constructed roads in the Cumberland Mountains near the Daniel Boone memorial at Whiteburg, Ky.
Mr. Robinette returned to Mojave in 1937 for a short visit and was impressed with the growth of the town. He returned in 1945 to retire after an active and interesting life and lived with his son Mike who was a student at Mojave High School.
Born in Nashville, Tenn. on June 28, 1887, he was 87 years old at the time of his death and had been in reasonably good health. His death was attributed to natural causes on December 29th at his home on L Street.
