Sandy Sandberg's Death Shocks Mojave

A weekend fun-filled water skiing trip turned to tragedy when "Sandy" Sandberg was accidentally drowned early Sunday morning at Cottonwood Cove in Nevada.
The Dick Scott family were there for the week and were joined Friday night by June and Sandy Sandberg and a grandson Eddie Duntley.
The story as told by Dick Scott goes like this. They had all retired late Saturday nite, sleeping on the beach. Sandy told Dick he couldn't sleep and went down to the water to swim, Dick going with him. After a few minutes both returned to their sleeping bags.
A little while later Dick heard Sandy return to the water and hearing splashing noises knew he was out swimming again. June awoke and half-dozing at the same time couldn't hear Sandy splashing any more, got up, called Dick and said she was worried.
Dick, thinking Sandy was out of the water and up on shore some place wasn't too concerned.
The only operative light in camp was burned out and June kept insisting Sandy was in the water. Dick and his boy Chuck and friend Jack Craig went into the inky black waiter trying to find the missing man but to no avail.
They searched the shoreline in the dark and found nothing. Dick decided to go f'or help and lights. He took his boat and went down to another ski area, looking for help and no one would get involved. Turning around, he went back to the boat marina to get the rangers.
After docking, he knocked on two trailers before anyone would call the ranger for him.
In the meantime, the two boys had found Sandy floating under the water.
Artificial respiration was applied continuously but it was too late.
Word was sent to Dick, who came back and then the rangers arrived.
They estimated Sandy was in the water 45 minutes or more.
The body was removed to Henderson, Nevada and was returned to Mojave later for services Thursday. An autopsy is pending.
