Funeral services were held last Saturday, May 8, 1971, for Cecil Smith, a 16 year resident of Mojave.
Mr. Smith was the owner of the City Center Motel and the Farmer John's Pancake House, both on Sierra Hwy. He was the president of, the Chamber of Commerce in 1956-57, was a member of the East Kern Association, and the former Mojave Motel Owner:s Association. He was also active in many business promotion groups and incorporation study groups, as well as many committees that worked for the betterment of the community.
Mr. Smith was born in Montreal, Canada, came to the United States in 1927, to California in 1953 and to Mojave in 1955.He passed away at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara on Wednesday; May 5, 1971. He was 63.
He is survived by his widow, Gladys; a son, Terrence, , Clarendon Hills, Ill.; a brother, Fred, Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Marjorie Pearce, St. John, Canada; and three grandchildren.
The services were held at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Nazarene. Interment was in the Mojave Cemetery.
