Earl C. Cain, 92, of Royalton died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
Funeral services for Mr. Cain will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Miners Cemetery east of Royalton with Pastor James Heaney officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Zeigler Masonic Lodge and military grave side rites accorded by the Zeigler American Legion, Patrick McClellan Post 177. There will be no visitation, family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery. Vantrease Funeral Homes, Inc. of Zeigler and Royalton is in charge of the arrangements.
Earl was born November 15, 1911 in Herrin, Illinois to Jesse and Bertha (O'Neal) Cain. He married Earline G. Humphrey August 10, 1976, in Mt. Vernon. She survives in Herrin.
Other survivors include a son, Robert E. Cain of Herrin; a sister- in-law, Mrs. Stella Walker of Royalton; a brother-in-law and his wife, Guy and Barbara Humphrey of Royalton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Earl was of the Protestant fatih. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA local union 9111 and last worked at Zeigler Number Eleven Mine in Sparta. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a 50 year member of the Zeigler Masonic Lodge 1048.
