Joe Woods Stivers, an old timer in Mojave, died May 2 at the Sepulveda Veteran's Hospital in Los Angeles. Mr. Stivers had been ill for about a month. He was in the Mojave Hospital for a while and was transferred to Los Angeles.
Mr. Stivers was 59 years old and as near as can be remembered he spent at least 25 years of that time in Mojave. His residence in Mojave was at 128 L Street his birthplace was Deseret, Utah.
Services are today at the Community Congregational Church. Mr. Oscar Dewees of the Hollywood Masonic Lodge No. 542 and other members of that lodge will officiate. Pall bearers will be Frank Sweet, Frank Elsey, George Able, Dan Leavett and Paul White. Burial will follow at the Mojave Cemetery.
Mr. Stivers is survived by his wife, Mae B. Stivers, Bakersfield, and his children, Carole M. Thompson of Bakersfield, Gladys J. Stivers of Sacramento and Jack Stivers of Lancaster, by eight grandchildren and two sisters, Alice Smith of Los Angeles and Aetna DeVey of Long Beach.
