Hortense Bernhisel Zobell
(June 30, 1915 - May 11, 2007)

OGDEN – Hortense Bernhisel Zobell, former longtime resident of Ogden, Utah and Nyssa, Oregon, quietly passed away in her home in Bountiful, Utah, on Friday, May 11, 2007. She was 91 years old. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Henry D. Zobell of Bountiful; daughter Diane (Richard) Hurley of Bountiful; and sons W. Paige (Sherry) Zobell of McCall, ID; and Royce L. (Sandy) Zobell of Spokane, WA; five grandchildren, Bryan Hurley, Vicki Tumia, Sheryl Burk, Zacory Zobell and Angelyn Hyre; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was born in Lewiston, Utah on June 30, 1915, where she grew up, attended school, and began a lifetime of caring for children by teaching the 1st grade. It was there she met her lifelong companion and married Henry D. Zobell in the Logan temple in 1938. She spent the next 25 years residing in Nyssa, Oregon raising and supporting her three children and being actively engaged in the service of the Church and the community. There was never a call to serve that went unanswered or an assignment that was not carried out. It was during these very busy years that she found time to return to college and earn a Bachelors degree in Education. In 1964, she and Henry moved to Ogden, Utah where they spent the next 37 years. While there, she continued her enthusiastic service in the Church while supporting her husband and a growing list of grandchildren. During her life she took the opportunity to travel and spent many cherished vacations in such exotic places as the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, and Israel. Ocean side living in San Clemente, California was part of her golden years experiences during the cold Utah winters. Her final years were spent at the Heritage Place Assisted Living facility in Bountiful, Utah. Here she was surrounded and loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, and her cat.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John M. Bernhisel III and Ruey Pond Bernhisel, her sister, Constance Manuel, and her brothers, Harold, Clark, and Virgil Bernhisel.

Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
