Accident takes life of local boy Mike Taylor

Mr. and Mrs. Glen G. Taylor have been notified of the accidental death of their son, Private First-Class Michael Graham Taylor, on Sept. 27, 1964 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany.
Serving in the 8th Signal Battalion of the 8th Infantry Division, U.S. Army, Mike was on a night-time training maneuver when he walked up behind a sentry. It is believed the sentry did not hear him approaching and suddenly whirled, striking Mike with his bayonet.
Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of his remains in Mojave where services and burial will be held.
Mike was born on June 6, 1942 in Oxnard, California and came to Mojave with his parents when he was five years old. He attended Elementary and High School in Mojave and graduated with the Class of 1962.
Entering the Army Oct. 6, 1963, Taylor took basic training at Fort Ord, then Signal Battalion School in Fort Gordon, Georgia where he graduated May 8, 1964 .and went immediately to his assignment in Germany.
In addition to his parents he is survived by a brother, Dallas of Lancaster; a sister, Roxanne of Mojave; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Beulah May Graham of Santa Maria; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Lee Taylor of Fullerton, Calif.

Mike Taylor funeral Friday

Full military rites will be held in honor of Private First Class Michael Graham Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen G. Taylor, who was the victim of a training accident in Germany on Sept. 27, 1964.
The services will be held at the Mojave Assembly of God Church on Friday afternoon October 9, 1964 at 2 p.m. with Rev. J. D. Countryman officiating. Interment will follow at the Mojave District Cemetery where he will be laid to rest in the Veteran's Section.
"Mike" was born in Oxnard, California on June 6, 1942 and moved with his family to Mojave when he was five months old. He received his education here and entered the army on
Oct. 6, 1963.
After basic training at Fort Ord, he went to the Signal Battalion School in Fort Gordon, Georgia, where he graduated on May 8, 1964 and immediately thereafter was sent to Germany with the United States Army 8th Infantry Div.
His survivors' include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Taylor; a brother, Dallas, of Lancaster; sister, Roxanne, of Mojave; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Beulah M. Graham, of Santa Maria; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Lee Taylor of Fullerton California.
