Col Albert Louis "Al" Villaret

COL Albert "Al" Villaret USAF (Ret), a 1953 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, died 15 December 2012 in Fairfax, VA. Al was a three year varsity crew member of Navy's 1952 Olympic Gold Medal-winning crew team, "The Great Eight." He went Air Force, received his wings in 1954, flew jet fighters F-104 and F-105's for an "exciting" year in Vietnam and had 3 tours in Korea. Retired from USAF in 1982 and coached rowing teams at Yorktown HS in Arlington, VA for 16 years. He was also a substitute teacher in Fairfax County Schools. Al served for several years as a docent at the Udvar-Hazy facility of the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum. Al's second wife, Betty predeceased him in 2009. Al's body was cremated and his ashes will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a date to be determined. There was no death notice or obituary in the Washington newspapers. Al had an extended family of 7 children and 14 grandchildren between his first and second wives.
