Charles Tomaier Passes in Fresno

Charles J. Tomaier, 46, of 219 Monte Vista street, Bakersfield, a Southern Pacific Company locomotive engineer, died in a Fresno hospital yesterday afternoon following a heart attack suffered while switching cars in a Fresno freight yard. He died 15 minutes after arrival at the hospital.

Tomaier, a native of Illinois, lived in Bakersfield a number of years. He had been working on the extra board during the heavy fruit shipments of the valley this summer and fall.

He entered the railroad’s service in 1917 and had been an engineer for 15 years. Relative include his widow, Mrs. Eva Tomaier of Bakersfield, a sister in Mojave and another in Texas. Funeral arrangements are being made by Stephens and Bean Mortuary in Fresno.

Tomaier Funeral Held In Mojave

Final rites for Charles James Tomaier, 45, well-known Bakersfield resident, who died late Friday in a local hospital, were held at 10 a.m. today in the Mission Catholic Church, Mojave, with the Reverend Father John O’Shea officiating. Burial was held in Mojave cemetery under the direction of the Hopson Mortuary.

A native of Chicago, Ill., Mr. Tomaier lived in Bakersfield and Kern county for 25 years, during which time he was employed as an engineer for the Southern Pacific railroad. He had many friends in railroad circles.

He is survived by his wife, Eva Tomaier, 219 Monte Vista Drive, Bakersfield; his mother, Mrs. Mary Tomaier, Kansas; his sisters, Mrs. Mary Myler, Nevada; Mrs. Louise Bates, Oklahoma and Mrs. Blanche Allen, Kansas.
