d/o Captain Samuel Pottinger and Jane Caldwell. She married Ignatius Aloysius Spalding on March 20, 1821 in Clark, IN. Family lore has she ran off and eloped because her father knew Spalding was a Roman Catholic. He ran a dry goods store in New Hope. After they were married, Jane came back and begged her father's forgiveness which he granted. Their first child was born in the back room of Walnut Hill. After their marriage and birth of the first child, they moved to Morganfield, Union Co, KY.

They had four children:
* Robert Abell 1-6-1822 to 12-15-1895 Lawyer m. Ellen Miles
* Albethaire 4-25-1824 m. David H.Cowan
* Samuel 9-28-1825 to 4-27-1906 Lawyer m.1 Margaret Hanly, 2 Ann Barry
* Benedict 3-1-1827 to 9-7-1894.

Jane died at the age of 24, complications after last child birth. She was named after her Fathers's first wife.
