Heart attack Fells local Businessman

Harvey K. Cain, 47, well-known Mojave businessman, passed away at A. V. Hospital in Lancaster early Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack about. 11 P.M. Monday night in Mojave. .
He had attended a regular Chamber meeting at the airport earlier in the evening taking an active part. Following this, Harvey, Bob Kieffe and Dave Sparling had gone to White's Café for coffee.
They were talking about various subjects when Harvey suddenly said, "There's a fellow I want to see" and excused himself. Bob and' Dave continued the conversation waiting for Harvey's return. When he came back he told them "I feel bad, could you drive me home, Bob?" Mr. Kieffe said certainly and they helped him out to the car. Bob saw that Mr. Cain was quite ill so he called the ambulance and notified A.V. Hospital that an emergency case was coming. Dave elected to ride with Harvey and Bob drove over to pick up Mrs. Cain. Arriving minutes later the patient was immediately taken to emergency for treatment. Mr. Cain responded and was placed in a room. He was able to talk normally and chatted with both his wife and two friends.
The group returned home about midnight and shortly after word was received that Mr. Cain had passed away. ,
An Air Force Veteran of World War II, Harvey was born October 23, 1916 in Missouri. A five year resident of Mojave, he and his wife built up a fine business as Western Auto Dealer here. He was an active civic leader, director of the chamber, past president of Lions and, Charter member of Desert Candle Chapter, Order of Eastern Star No. 663..
A staunch member of Community Congregational Church he served as deacon, moderator and was a member of the board of trustees. Harvey was also a member of Schiller Lodge No. 11 F & A.M. Denver, Colorado.
Survivors include his widow, Jean of 15959 Lawrence Dr., a son Randall, two brothers; Leland of La Grange, Ill. and Leonard of Niota, Ill. and one sister, Francis Shacklett of Gorin Missouri.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 A.M. in the Comm. Cong Church with Rev. Bruce O. Inglis officiating and Mojave Lodge No. 783 F & AM assisting. Casket will be closed at the church, visitors may call at the mortuary.
Interment will be in Mojave Cemetery with Stickel Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
