Guy F. Atkinson was the son of stone mason George W. Atkinson(1836-1905) and Nancy J. Wilson Atkinson. There were 10 children in this family. Guy F. married Myrtle Laurella Herring , 22 June, 1905, they had three children. George Herring Atkinson was born 10 April, 1905 in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado. Donald Atkinson their son was born while they were living at the Plaza Hotel in Colorado Springs in 1907. Mary Elizabeth Atkinson was born 3 January, 1909 in Cheyenne, Laramie, Wyoming. George Atkinson, father of Guy F, owned the Plaza Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Myrtle passed away in 1926 and Guy F. remained a widower until he married Rachel Althea Carlsen in 1939. Guy F. listed his occupation as a contractor as early as 1907. Guy F. went on to found the Guy F. Atkinson Construction Company in the 1920's, specializing in dam projects and other major infra- structure projects in the west. This company grew by leaps and bounds. They were principles in the construction of hundreds of major infra-structure projects. Some of which were the county of Alameda Colliseum in Oakland, United States Interstate Freeway 5, south in Everett, Washington State and many others. Guy F's company was a principle in the following Dam construction, The Hoover Dam, Grand Coulee Dam, Bonneville Dam, The Dalles Dam, McNary Dam, The Pardee Dam, The Coolidge Dam, The Mangla Dam in West Pakistan and many others. Guy F. Atkinson Co. also purchased Willamette Iron and Steel located in Salem, Ore. in order to have a ready source of steel for their construction projects. Guy F. Atkinson Co. also sponsored major building projects at Willamette University including the Atkinson School of Business. The Atkinson Foundation was funded by Guy F., George, and other members of the family. It exists to this day and provides scholarships at Willamette University to deserving individuals. A life well lived and remembered for his generosity and business acumen.
