Grace Lorraine Pierce, of Denver Colorado, passed away on December 26, 2012, at the age of 88 in Wheat Ridge Colorado at Collier Hospice Center.
Grace was born July 16, 1924, in Bingham, Utah, to Clyde and Ellen Rasmussen. She was raised in Utah. and California until she married William J. Pierce on January 28,1946, and then moved to Casper Wyoming.
There she had five children - Karen Sue Crane, Ruth Ann Braun, William Joseph Pierce, Ir., Ellen Vondra Larson, and Raymond Clyde Pierce. In Grace's early years, she was a loving wife and homemaker and was active in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church as a Sunday School Teacher. She was a 4-H Leader for over ten years and received recognition with the JC Penney trip award to the State Leader Conference in 1966 as well as the Outstanding 4,-H Leader Award in November of 1973. On September 12, 1985, Grace received the Wyoming Senior Citizens Inc. Award for Mature/Older Job Seeker and received the Older Worker Week. Certificate in March of 1986. Grace decided to pursue her love and passion for children by choosing a career in childcare. Grace received the Casper Daycare/Child Development Center Award on May 30, 1986, and the Early Childhood Staff Training Award in February of 1987. Grace played an important role in the formation and foundation of the Early Childhood Development Program at Casper College and earned her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development from Casper College, graduating on May 15, 1992. Even as a retiree, Grace continued to be a leader by serving on the Resident Council at Holly Heights Nursing Center in Denver, Colorado. There she received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2009 and the Resident Project of the Year Award for 2009-2010.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ellen Rasmussen; her sisters, Dorothy and June; and her husband, William J. Pierce.
Grace is survived by her sisters, Beverly, Janet and JoEllen; her five children; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Grace will forever be remembered as a loving and caring person who was always giving of herself and active in her beliefs and passions.
