Mrs. Mina Verdoorn, age 89, of Orange City died Thursday, Aug. 10, 1995 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
A funeral service was held on Monday, Aug. 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.
Mina Elmira was born May 24, 1906, at Orange City, the daughter of John and Minnie (De Jong) Aalberts. She was raised at Orange City.
On Aug. 21, 1928 she married John Verdoorn at Orange City. They farmed in Sioux County for many years and then operated a resort in Minnesota for eight years, after which they retired to Hospers. In April of 1980 they moved to Orange City. Mr. Verdoorn died Feb. 2, 1981 at Orange City.
A couple of years later, Mrs. Verdoorn became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In June of 1994 she transferred to the Heritage House.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church, and she enjoyed doing handwork.
Survivors include her three daughters, Rose and her husband William Van Veldhuizen of Sheldon, Joan Huizenga of Orange City, and Dorothy Even of Alton; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edwin Aalberts of Bermidji, Minn.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Bernard Huizenga and Tom Even; and three brothers, Garrett, The Rev. Gradus, and Alfred Aalberts.
Memorials are being directed to Ataxia.
