James Victor Freese was born October 30, 1844, in Jefferson Township, Coshocton County, Ohio, the son of John and Nancy Jane McFarland Freese. On February 13, 1868, in Brown County, Indiana, he married Nancy Jane Ogle, daughter of James Perry and Louisa Jane McClary Ogle. They were the parents of 3 children: John Walter, George Washington and Dora A. Freese. James passed away May 7, 1873, in Story, Van Buren Township, Brown County, Indiana, and was buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery there. After his death, Nancy married 2nd to Benjamin Franklin Whitehorn.
