Donald served as a 2nd Lt. and Co-Pilot on B-17G "Pakawalup" (#42-31630), 751st Bomber Squadron, 457th Bomber Group, 8th Air Corps, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

Donald died in the "Line Of Duty" when the "Pakawalup" crashed in bad weather over Alconbury, England of a non-battle related incident. The the entire crew perished in this crash.
