Shafer Brown is Killed by 150 ft. Plunge in Shaft

While examining a mine near Rosamond, the Par Plus, last thursday afternoon, Edward Shafer Brown, well known to the people of Mojave and Rosamond, slid down a corner rod to reach the ladder 20 feet below the surface in a 200 foot shaft and lost his balance falling 150 feet to his death. .
Mr. Brown and Mr. Fred Clay, a brother-in-law, were examining the mine in preparation of taking it over on a lease. The body was recovered by Dick Moore who operates a lease nearby, with the help of a light loaned by California Patrolman Sanders and Jack Pittman. The O'Donnell ambulance brought it back to Mojave.
Edward Shafer Brown was born in Florence, Ariz., on September 24, 1899 and had been a resident of Mojave for 10 years although at the time of his death he resided in Rosamond. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ellen C Hickok of Rosamond, a brother, Mark Brown, of Mojave, two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Curless and
Mrs. Fred Clay of Rosamond, by his former wife, Florence Brown of Los Angeles, a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy McManamy, and a son, Ralph Brown, both of Mojave, another son whose address is unknown and a stepson, Alfred Hughes of Los Angeles.
Funeral services were held in .the O'Donnell Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. William Hedgpeth of Rosamond's Wayside Chapel officiating. Burial took place in Mojave cemetery on Monday morning with private grave services being conducted.
