James A. Dowlin, an old and respected citizen of Johnson county, died at his home in Buffalo last Friday, May 30th, after an illness of several month, his death being due to cancer of the stomach. The funeral was held at the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon, and was conducted by Rev. C. J. Mekkelson, pastor of that church. The remains were laid to rest in Willow Grove cemetery, and the large number of people who followed the remains to their last resting place attested the esteem in which deceased was held by his neighbors.
James A. Dowlin was born in Green county, Pennsylvania on February 10, 1854, and died at Buffalo, Wyoming on May 30, 1919, at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 20 days. In 1877 he came to his uncle's ranch in Laramie county and in 1881 removed to Johnson county, where he has been an active and respected resident since. On December 27, 1880, he was united in marriage to Emma H. Healand. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Georgia Still of Buffalo. The deceased is survived by a wife, daughter and three grand children, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Payton of Dexter, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Anna Miller of Kansas, and a brother, Edwin Dowlin of Minnesota.
