The couple returned to live in New Freeport where their first three children were born, but by 1916, had moved to Fairmont, where their fourth child was born and where, for the next 25 years, Claude was an erection superintendent for the Fairmont (WV) Mining and Manufacturing Company. During the last six years of his life, Claude was an engineer for the Kanawha Manufacturing Company in Charleston, WV. He died suddenly on May 7 1942, while bowling with friends. His body was first taken to Fairmont, where he had many friends, then moved to Greene County, PA for burial in the Stiles family plot on May 11 1942.
