Joseph E. Abbett , a retired farmer, died Thursday in a Gresham hospital of causes related to age. He was 79.
No funeral will be held. Disposition was by cremation.
Mr. Abbett was born April 10, 1913, in Troy, Kan. He farmed near Troy after graduating from high school. He served in the U.S Army for a short time and returned to farming after receiving a medical discharge.
He married Irene J. Keck in Troy in 1939. The couple later divorced. In 1977, Mr. Abbett moved to Eagle Creek.
Survivors include his sons, Lee of Eagle Creek, Joseph of Troutdale, David of Camas, Wash., and Robert of Estacada; daughters, Louise Shaw and Jean Owings, both of Portland; sisters, Mary Guthrie of St. Joseph, Mo., and Stella Bear of Wathena, Kan.; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
