"Sissy Girl" was 11 weeks old when we adopted her from the S.P.C.A. Her birthday, I was told, was around Sept 1, 1997.
When my Granddaughter and I went to check out the kittens, we spotted one that kept coming up to the front of the cage, meowing very loud. He later became known as Bubby because we adopted him too. Sissy was sleeping in the back of the cage and when I spoke to her, she looked up and then went on with her nap.
My Granddaughter and I decided to adopt Bubby and Sissy because we didn't want the other one to be left behind and lonely.
The Vet has said a couple of times, Sissy's personality was such that she didn't have time for humans and had her own agenda, except, of course, when it came feeding time.
We accepted that she was her own "person"... (smile) and loved her as much as we did the loveable "Bubby".
Down through the years, we enjoyed watching Sissy chase a leaf, make her rounds in the yard and lay in our back yard sleeping while the squirrels enjoyed their feedings. Sissy also loved to jump in the air and try to catch her share of the neighborhood bugs and moths.
In March of 2011, I noticed Sissy was losing weight and I took her to the Vets and blood work was done on her.
The tests came back that Sissy had renal failure.
Since then, we have kept her as comfortable as we possibly could. The Vet said she was not suffering but that if she lost her appetite and started staggering, to bring her in to see him as her quality of life would not be good.
Yesterday, I noticed that Sissy wasn't eating as well as she had been.
Today, December 20, I noticed Sissy not only staggering but was resting in between her walking and laying her head to the side. I called the Vet immediately and made the appointment.
Sissy died in my arms, on the way to the Vets.
I am as crushed as anyone is when they lose a pet.....so I will just leave it there, for now.
Sissy Girl....I am glad you got to enjoy the Christmas tree and sleep under it for about a week now. I love you to the moon and back.
