Technical Sergeant Bearg was a passenger aboard U.S. Army Air Corps B-17G Flying Fortress
#42-40024.

During a flight from McChord Airfield in Washington to Kingman, Arizona, the bomber experienced structural failures due to severe icing conditions, and crashed near McClellan Field in Sacramento before it could make an emergency landing.

All thirteen Army personnel aboard perished.
