Clarence served as a Technical Sergeant on B-17G #43-38699, 850th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, 8th Air Force, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Wisconsin prior to the war.

Clarence was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 suffered a mid-air collision with B-17G #43-38167 over France and crashed during the war.

Two civilians that were at the crash site were also killed.

He was awarded a Purple Heart.
