He was the son of Samuel and Rachel (Dickerson) Parris.

He was a stone mason and it is believed he helped enlarge and maintain the Iron works near State Line. He married Sarah Leonard and they made their home on the banks of Suck Creek.

He died before the 1840 census. His estate was not settled until 1861 when his son, William, petitioned the court.

At the time of his death he died possessed of a tract of land, containing 109 acres, on Suck Creek, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

Gravesite Details

This was originally the Parris Cemetery. Most of the fieldstones that lay in the center of it were Parris'. Over a period of time other families used this cemtery as well (Lawter, Pope, and Gilbert). It sits in a grove of trees at the intersection.
