Mrs Lucy Fortress Beyer, widow of L.A. Beyer, Buchanan resident for many years, died at her home in that town Thursday evening. She had been in poor health since May when she was taken ill when enroute here from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and Michigan where she had been visiting. She was a patient at Trinity Hospital for a time.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Eddy Chapel, Rev. W.A. Ebertz, pastor of the Jamestown and Buchanan Congregational churches, officiating.

Interment was in the family plot in the Buchanan Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bert Ness, Alex Wilkinson, Ray Knudson, Leonard Christ, H.E. Wagner and Edward Rutgerson.

Mrs Beyer was born in Adrian, Michigan, September 10, 1871, and came to North Dakota when she was a young woman. She and Frank Northrup were married and he died many years ago. She was later married to John McKeen and homesteaded near Buchanan in 1905. Mr McKeen preceded her in death and on February 7, 1912, she was married to Louis Beyer, who died January 8, 1950. Mrs Beyer was at one time, carrier on the Star route from Buchanan to Prairie post office west of Buchanan. She was also a correspondent for The Stutsman County Record for a number of years.

Organizations of which she was a member, in addition to the Congregational church, were the Ladies Aid, Royal Neighbors, DUV and VFW Auxiliary. She was a Sunday school superintendent for many years and also active in 4-H work.

Survivors are a son and daughter, Robert McKeen of Buchanan, and Mrs Muriel Alfred, Glendale, California; two brothers, Charles Fortress, Toledo, Ohio and James Fortress of Jackson, Michigan; two stepsons, Leo Beyer, Fairborn, Ohio and Norman Beyer, Phoenix, Arizona; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren in Michigan. A son, Floyd Northrup, and an adopted daughter, Mrs Harold Ytreide, are deceased.
