Associate Judge George Pease, Ex-lake County Public Defender
October 03, 1991|Chicago Tribune News.
Judge George W. Pease, 52, an associate judge of the Lake County Circuit Court, was the former Lake County public defender and a former assistant state`s attorney.
A resident of Waukegan, he died Tuesday of cancer in Lake Forest Hospital. ``
He felt his calling was the law and the judiciary, not politics,`` said his wife, Nancy. ``That is why he would never have run for office. As an associate judge, he had been appointed for the third time. Ethics, honesty and fairness-those are the qualities he wanted to be remembered for.``Judge Pease graduated from Leyden Township High School; the University of Illinois, where he was Phi Beta Kappa; and the University of Michigan Law School.
He was an assistant state`s attorney from 1967 to 1968 and was in private practice from 1968 to 1972. He then was appointed public defender and served 10 years in the position. The office expanded considerably during his tenure. ``He clearly knew the law and had an extraordinary ability to cut through to the issues,`` said Judge Stephen Walter, presiding judge of the civil division of the Lake County Circuit Court. ``He had the ability to resolve complicated cases efficiently. He was selfless, quiet and introspective, a man with an intricate sense of humor.``
Survivors besides his wife include two daughters, Elizabeth Borowski and Emily; and a grandson.
At his request, there will be no services.
