Refugio (Cuco) M. Cedillo, 73, passed away August 4, 2003 at his home in Yuma with his famil at his side. He was born April 24, 1930 in Yuma. Cuco was a native Yuman, residing here for 73 years.
Cuco was employed at Pacific Fruit Express, Yuma Furniture and retired from Arizona Western College.
Cuco was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Fraternal order of the Eagles, and Woodmen of the World.
Cuco is survived by his beloved wife, Hortense Cedillo, of Yuma; son, Steven, Georgie, and Johnny, Cedillo, all of Yuma; Richard Cedillo, of Phoenix; daughter, Stella Ponce, of Yuma; brother, Jesse Cedillo, of Yuma, sisters, Rachel Carrillo, Elvira Doten, and Sarah Espinoza, all of Yuma; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Juanita Cedillo, son, Anthony Cedillo, sisters, Herminia Camacho, and Feliz Zapata, and grandson, Steven Cedillo Jr.
A wake will be held Friday, August 8, 2003 from 5:00pm-9:00pm at Johnson Mortuary. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm.Mass will be at 9:00am Saturday, August 9, 2003 at St. Francis Church. Burial will follow immediately at Desert Lawn.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Cedillo, Tommy Cedillo, Anthony Ponce, Gibbie Ponce, Oscar Atondo, Randy Espinoza, Michael Cedillo, and Joe Espinoza. Honorary Bearers will be Steven Cedillo, Georgie Cedillo, Richard Cedillo, Jesse Carrillo, Jesse Cedillo, Jim Carruthers, Moses Camerena, and Gilbert Ponce.
Cuco was well known to almost all, as he was a carpenter, handyman, cabinet builder, repairman, and even remodeled homes. He could fix or build anything. Many homes in Yuma have been touched by his works. he never said 'no' to anyone; he would gladly help anyone. In his leisure time, he enjoyed dancing, camping, traveling and sports. He could always be seen watching 'OZ', a softball team coached by his son, Steven. The team recently took first place in the Memorial Day Tournament, which was dedicated to Cuco by the team. His presence was an inspiration to all those in attendance.
His smile will be greatly missed by all those who were privileged to have worked with him, been helped by him, and those related to him.
