Apsaalooke healer and the subject of Frank Linderman's book "Pretty Shield." She was promised by her father to marry her brother-in-law, Goes Ahead. When her daughter passed away, although she was elderly and widowed herself, she helped her son-in-law rear their seven children.

Widow of Scout Dies at Agency: Pretty Shields, age 87, passed away at her home in Crow Agency on Sunday, April 30, at 11 pm. She is the widow of Goes Ahead who participated in the events leading up to Custer's last stand by acting as one of Custer's Indian Scouts. Goes Ahead was also an Indian minister for his people. He died on May 31, 1919 at Crow Agency.

Frank B Linderman, Montana author wrote a book, "The Red Mother," which contained much material drawn from the life of Pretty Shields.

She is survived by 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, most of whom were with her at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held the following Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm and burial was in the Custer Battlefield National Cemetery beside her husband.
