Mr. Cantrell died about 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 24, 1978, in Shamrock General Hospital, where he had been a patient since early Monday morning.
Born April 24, 1892 in Johnson County, Texas, he and Miss Ovilla Lewis were married Feb 9, 1913, in Memphis. The couple moved to the Twitty Community in 1915 from Memphis. Mr. and Mrs. Cantrell moved to Shamrock upon his retirement from farming. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
One son, Travis, preceded him in death, January 14, 1977. Survivors include his widow, who resides in a nursing home in Erick, Oklahoma; three sons: C.G. Cantrell Jr., of Palm Springs, California; Bill Cantrell and Billy Cantrell, both of Shamrock; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Dugger of Hammon, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
