ABINGDON, Va. Robert Vance, age 93, of 846 Panacella Drive, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Grace Healthcare. He served in the Merchant Marines and as a Chief Engineer in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was of the protestant faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tilman Garfield Vance and Elizabeth Yelton Vance; wife, Blanche C. Vance; son, John Fred Vance; brother, George Vance; and two sisters, Ruby Vance Long and Ethel Vance Branson. He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Kaine of Liberty, S.C., Barbara Coffman of Tulsa, Okla., and Jade Vance of Johnson City, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Creeper Trail Club, P.O.
