A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Monday, May 23, 2005, in the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Joseph Ponessa officiating. Rite of Committal will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at the St. Patrick's Cemetery in Dickinson, North Dakota. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Helen was born on November 22, 1907, in Katherine, North Dakota, the daughter of John P. and Genevia (Metcalf) Runck. She was raised and educated in Casselton, North Dakota, graduating from Casselton High School with the class of 1926. She attended Valley City Normal School and taught in various places in eastern North Dakota and later in western Montana. She moved to Rhame, North Dakota, to teach. There she met Frank J. Nester and were united in marriage on November 21, 1940, in Bowman, North Dakota. Helen and her husband lived in Rhame where they had a lumber business. They moved to Dickinson in 1964 and Helen taught at St. Patrick's School. Frank preceded Helen in death in 1969. Helen married Clifford "C.R." Nicholson on June 14, 1974, in Dickinson. They lived in Fargo and spent the winter months in Mesa, Arizona. Helen and C.R. moved to Glendive in 1999 and he preceded her in death that same year. Helen continued to reside in Glendive until the time of her death.
She was a member of a homemaker's club, St. Mel's Altar Society, she was a 4-H leader, and was the director of the St. Mel's Choir. She enjoyed playing the piano and taught piano lessons for many years. Helen had a great love for poetry, reading, and playing Bridge.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; an infant son; two brothers, Lawrence and Ralph; and a sister, Marion.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Lee (Lawrence) Wolfgram, Pendleton, OR, Margie (Paul) Mandigo, Glendive, MT, Francine (George) Gilmore, Moorhead, Nancy Nester and Bill Baumann, Cary, IL; brother, Bob (Cleone) Runck, Casselton; seven grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
