She was the daughter of the late Claude and Bertha Yeager- Stansberry.
Survivors include her five children, Deloris Vannoy and husband Ronald,Ronald Ray Friend and wife Brenda, Jeanne Smith,Lana Cantoni and husband Ben and Reverend David Craig Friend and wife Rachel; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a brother, William Franklin Stansberry and wife Christine; as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Friend in 1987; two sisters, Leota Marie Comp and Edith Elaine Anderson, one brother, Ralph Stansberry; a son in-law Steve Smith and one granddaughter, Jennifer Smith Watson.
Ruth was a founding member of the Covenant Evangelical Methodist Church in Morgantown. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and baking, and gardening. She was the co-owner of Friend Enterprises along with her late husband. Her greatest joy was her family.
Family and friends will be received at Covenant Evangelical Methodist Church, 802 Greenbag Rd., Morgantown on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 5-8 PM and again on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12 Noon with her son, Reverend David Friend, officiating. Interment will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery, Rt. 73 S.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to Covenant Evangelical Methodist Church, PO Box 342, Morgantown, WV 26507.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to all her special caregivers as well as the wonderful staff at Mapleshire Nursing Home. There truly are angels among us.
