Well-known Philadelphia distiller; his bottles had a distinctive log cabin shape. According to legend, the brand and the design of the bottles were so popular that "booz" [later "booze"] became a slang term for any hard liquor. Another story says the log cabin shape was derived from a supposed quote by William Henry Harrison in the 1840 presidential race that he would "rather sit on his front porch sipping whiskey than run for President." His opponents tried to use it against him; he turned it around and made free bottles of whiskey in the log cabin shape available to anyone who'd ask so they'd know who to vote for on election day. Neither story really holds water, since the term has apparently been around in one form or another since the 14th century.
