Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer (Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois), Friday, April 9, 1965:
   Merle McDaid of East Alton, an employee at Olin Mathieson Chemical Corp., died Thursday at 5 p.m. at Wood River Township Hospital. He was 53 years old.
   Son of the late Charles and Dora Dettmer McDaid, he was born Feb. 8, 1912 in Edwardsville.
   Survivors include his wife, the former Willah Escos; a son, John of Edwardsville; one brother, Leo of Chicago; and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Weaver of the Madison County Tuberculosis Sanatorium.
   Mr. McDaid, a veteran of World War II, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
   Visitation will be after noon Saturday at the Straube Funeral Home. Final rites will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. R.O. Laaser of Eden United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in the Maryville Cemetery.
