The information below comes from Lamar County Death Records.
From an unnamed and undated article located in the Lamar County Genealogical Library, in 'Scrapbook of Newspaper Clippings,' donated by Zoe Hazelwood: 'Funeral service for Virgil Scott who died of a heart attack early Monday morning [Nov. 11] at his home, was arranged for 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Manton-Fry Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. W. H. Wright, superannuate Methodist minister, and the Rev. E. L. Stanford, new pastor of Bonham Street Methodist Church, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Bankhead, Phil Speairs, W. C. Brown, Jerry Booth, Ralph Biard and T. E. Chapman. Mr. Scott, 52 years old, was a cotton buyer here having been born and reared in Paris. The only immediate survivors are a son, Joe Scott, and a brother, Will T. Scott.'
THE DETROIT NEWS-HERALD, 14 Nov 1935 from microfilm in Clarksville Library: 'Virgil Scott, 52, prominent cotton man of Paris, his native town, died suddenly at his home there Monday. He is survived by a son, Jack Scott and a brother, Will T. Scott, both of Kiomitia.'
On the same stone with Minnie Scott.
LAMAR COUNTY INQUESTS, May 2, 1916 to December 1938, Transcribed by Betsy Mills: Lamar County Texas, Precinct One, Justice of the Peace, Inquest Record Book Number 1, Record 61; Virgil Scott, about 52 years old 6-1 in height, wt about 200 lbs. Date of death: Nov 11, 1935. Where died: N 12 Street, Paris, Tx, Bath room in house. Date of inquest: Nov 11, 1935, 9 A.M. Where held: N 12 St, Paris, Tex. Nature of information and by whom given: Dr. M. A. Walker who was there in few minutes after death. Finding by the Justice: I was called to N 12th Street, Paris, Tex, about 9 A.M. and viewed the body of deceased, Virgil Scott, after Mr. Scott's body was found in the bath room. This body was yet warm. Dr. M. A. Walker had been treating deceased for quite a while. He had nephritis, his heart was considerably affected, his physician had ordered him to stay in his bed, also not to drink. He continued to drink and didn't stay in his bed. From information obtained from his physician and all I could obtain from others. It is my opinion he died from natural causes. Deceased died about 7:30 A.M. Nov 11, 1935. No witnesses. A. W. Sheffield, Justice Peace, Precinct No. 1, Lamar County, Texas.
