Actor. Born in La Harpe, Illinois, he was a brilliant character performer in hundreds of films, radio and television shows. He began his career in 1926, on radio performing for 11 years in the daytime soap opera "Bachelor's Children" and later on the evening radio show "First Nighter" in the 1940s. Also during this time, he was a leading radio actor on many other shows plus voiceovers for commercials and cartoons. His biggest success came with the advent of television where he was a regular on many programs such as "Dragnet", "The Untouchables", "Petticoat Junction", "My Three Sons", "The Jack Benny Program", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "Bonanza". For feature films, he appeared in "Cuban Fireball" (1951), "Francis Joins the WACS" (1954), "North by Northwest" (1959), "The Seven Minutes" (1971), "St. Ives" (1976), among others. He died at age 84 in Los Angeles, California. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
